Sherwood Park's own Abby Guezen has ascended to the pinnacle of university athletics, earning the prestigious title of U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Year. This honor follows a stellar season with the University of Alberta Pandas volleyball team, where Guezen's leadership and skill were instrumental in securing both the Canada West championship and the national title. 

Guezen's journey began in Sherwood Park, where she honed her talents at Sherwood Heights Junior High and Salisbury Composite High School. Her passion for volleyball was ignited by the supportive community and the camaraderie she found within her teams. Reflecting on her roots, Guezen expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from her hometown, emphasizing how it has been a cornerstone of her success.

In her third year with the Pandas, Guezen delivered an exceptional performance, leading the team to an 18-2 regular-season record. Her impressive stats included 277 kills, 44 service aces, and a .304 attack percentage, showcasing her dominance on the court. These achievements earned her the Canada West Player of the Year award, underscoring her significant impact on the team's success. 

Beyond her university accomplishments, Guezen has made her mark on the international stage. At just 19, she debuted with Canada's senior national team during the 2025 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, contributing to the team's advancement to the round of 16 at the Women's Volleyball World Championship. 

Looking ahead, Guezen is set to join Chieri '76 Volleyball in Italy's Serie A1, one of the world's premier women's volleyball leagues. This move signifies a new chapter in her career, offering opportunities to further develop her skills and compete at the highest levels of the sport.
