The provincial government says that over 106,000 residents have applied to receive the $100 affordability relief cheques.
The cheques are intended to help Albertans deal with high prices, specifically the increase in gas prices due to conflict in the Middle East resulting in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway in which roughly 20 per cent of the world’s oil flows through.
High traffic on the government website resulted in technical hurdles when it launched on Wednesday, with the site being slow or unresponsive for some attempting to sign up for the rebate. Nearly 3.4 million adults are eligible to get the money from the province, with the only restriction being an annual household income of $225,000 or less.
The province says it expects money to land in bank accounts within two weeks of the application being received. Albertans have up until September 30 to apply for the rebate. |

As a first time user of the Government site it took time to get an accout, connect with my bank account and then complete the form. However, once I submitted the required information, it was approved and money deposited in my bank account the same day.
I applied for my family and the process was smooth in the afternoon.

Cheques should arrive within two weeks of applying, so most applicants will start receiving them soon if they haven't already.
