Commercial Break Ins in Sherwood Park |
Addressing recent strathcona county break ins and residential break ins |
In a concerted effort to combat the recent surge in commercial break-ins in Sherwood Park, Alberta, the Strathcona County RCMP has made significant strides. On January 28, 2026, a search warrant executed at an Edmonton residence led to the recovery of 13 stolen pieces of equipment, valued at nearly $18,000. This operation resulted in the arrest of Hoang Son Tran, a 47-year-old Edmonton resident, who now faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Tran has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park on February 25, 2026.
The investigation was initiated following two break-ins at a rural business on January 15 and January 21, both occurring between 4 and 5:45 a.m. In these incidents, power equipment was stolen, prompting the RCMP's General Investigation Section to take action. The successful recovery of the stolen items underscores the RCMP's commitment to addressing such crimes.
In addition to these commercial incidents, there has been a troubling pattern of residential break-ins near Range Road 233 and Township Road 523 since mid-January. These break-ins typically occur in the early evening hours, with suspects gaining entry by breaking glass in windows or doors. The RCMP is actively investigating these cases and urges residents to remain vigilant.
To address community concerns and provide crime prevention tips, the Strathcona County RCMP will host a community meeting on Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m. at County Hall (2001 Sherwood Drive). Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about ongoing efforts and how they can contribute to community safety.
The RCMP recommends several measures to enhance property security:
Installing motion-activated lights and security cameras.
Securing valuables and ensuring doors and windows are locked.
Building strong relationships with neighbors to foster a community watch environment.
Reporting any suspicious activity promptly to the authorities.
Constable Cheri-Lee Smith, the detachment’s public information officer, emphasized the impact of these crimes on business owners and the community. She stated, "We will continue to target the individuals that choose to commit crimes throughout Strathcona County and cause undue hardships on Albertans."
Residents with information regarding these incidents are encouraged to contact the Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.
