Significant Developments in Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan Aim to Address Housing Needs |
Heartland Housing Foundation (HHF) is making substantial strides in providing affordable housing solutions across Alberta, with notable projects in Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan.
In Sherwood Park, HHF is progressing with the redevelopment of the former Clover Bar Lodge site. The upcoming project at 100 Fir Street is set to offer 104 units of near-market housing across six stories. This development aims to cater to the growing demand for affordable housing in the region. The project has received a significant boost with an $8.84 million grant from the province, covering one-third of the total cost. The remaining funds are anticipated to come from other grants, low-interest financing, and potential private-sector partnerships. Demolition of the old Clover Bar Lodge is slated for Spring 2026, with construction expected to commence in June 2026.
Meanwhile, in Fort Saskatchewan, HHF has successfully completed the Muriel Ross Abdurahman Court, an 83-unit affordable housing facility. This innovative project incorporates traditional wood construction with modular elements, including repurposed shipping containers, achieving a net-zero energy status. The building features photovoltaic solar arrays, a high-performance building envelope, and efficient lighting systems. Tenants began moving into the facility in the summer of 2023, and the project has been lauded for its sustainable design and contribution to the community's housing needs.
These initiatives underscore HHF's commitment to addressing the pressing need for affordable housing in Alberta. By leveraging innovative construction methods and securing substantial funding, HHF continues to make significant impacts in the communities it serves. |
