Community Unites to Combat Food Insecurity in Strathcona County

On Saturday, November 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the annual Stuff-A-Bus event will take place at all local Save-On-Foods locations in Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and Parkland County.

All donations collected in each community will remain within that community, directly benefiting local residents in need.

In 2024, the Sherwood Park community generously contributed 8,668 pounds (3,467.2 kg) of food and $1,564.15 in monetary donations to the Strathcona Food Bank.

Let's aim to surpass these figures in 2025!

Strathcona County Transit continues its tradition of supporting the community through the Stuff-A-Bus food drive.

This initiative, started by transit operators, reflects their commitment to giving back to the community they serve daily.

All donations made during Stuff-A-Bus in Strathcona County stay within the county, ensuring local support.

The need for the Food Bank and other support services in Strathcona County remains high.

Stuff-A-Bus is one of the Strathcona Food Bank's most significant food drives of the year.

Residents are encouraged to donate generously.

The Food Bank accepts not only dry goods but also hygiene items and pet food.

Please consider including these items in your donation.

In 2024, the Strathcona Food Bank distributed over 7,824 hampers, assisting more than 24,458 people, with 410 new families seeking help.

As of September 2025, the number of new families accessing the Food Bank has risen to two per day, highlighting the growing need in our community.

To put your donations into perspective:

A $6 prepared food pack can provide six meals for one person.

One bag of well-chosen dry and canned goods can feed a couple for two days.

A moderately full grocery cart can feed a family of four for a full week.

If you prefer, you can donate cash directly to the Strathcona Food Bank, allowing them to purchase necessary items.

Demands on the Strathcona Food Bank have led to the construction of the Nourish Centre, an 18,000 square foot, accessible building with all services on one level.

The new shopping model will allow clients to select foods and products they prefer for one month, emphasizing the importance of donating a variety of items.

Most needed items include:

Breakfasts:

Hot cereals, cold cereals, pancake mix, peanut butter, jams, jellies.

Desserts:

No-sugar-added fruit cups.

Side dishes:

Side kicks, rice, instant potatoes, hamburger helpers.

Beans and veggies:

Mixed beans, mixed vegetables.

Meat:

Ham, tuna, salmon, chili, stew.

Soup:

Chunky soups, low sodium broths.

Personal hygiene:

Feminine hygiene products, bar soap, shampoo.

Pets:

Dog food, cat food.

Staples:

Coffee, tea, sugar-free juices (1 L), sugar, flour, condiments, snack crackers.

Stuff-A-Bus is conducted in conjunction with Edmonton Transit Services (ETS).

Let's come together as a community to support those in need.

Your generosity can make a significant difference in the lives of many.
