RCMP Remind Albertans: No Waiting Period to Report Missing Persons

Police emphasize that immediate reporting can be critical in missing person cases.

The Alberta RCMP are reminding residents across the province that there is no waiting period when it comes to reporting someone missing. This important clarification from police highlights that time is often a critical factor in missing person investigations.

Contrary to what some may believe, you do not need to wait 24 or 48 hours before contacting police about a missing person. The RCMP encourage anyone with concerns about a missing individual to report it immediately.

When a person is reported missing promptly, law enforcement can begin their search and investigation right away, increasing the chances of a safe return. Delaying a report can potentially limit the effectiveness of search efforts and make it more difficult to locate the individual.

If you believe someone is missing, contact your local RCMP detachment or police service immediately. Provide as much detail as possible, including recent photographs, description of clothing, last known location, and any relevant personal information that could assist in the search.

The RCMP continue to work closely with communities across Alberta to ensure public safety and rapid response to missing person reports.
