School lockdown and RCMP response in Sherwood Park Alberta |
Addressing the weapons complaint and related protocols |
On Wednesday morning, two schools in Sherwood Park were placed on alert following a weapons complaint that authorities later determined to be unfounded.
Bev Facey Community High School was placed on lockdown, while F.R. Haythorne Junior High School implemented a hold-and-secure protocol.
Strathcona County RCMP responded promptly, searching the area and locating the individual in question.
Officers confirmed there was no firearm present and that no offenses had been committed.
Consequently, the lockdown and hold-and-secure measures were lifted, allowing normal school activities to resume.
The incident began at 9:52 a.m. when police received a report of a person possibly carrying a firearm in their pocket at Strathcona Athletic Park.
This park is situated near both schools, prompting the precautionary measures.
In recent months, Sherwood Park has experienced similar incidents.
In September 2025, a 14-year-old boy was charged after bringing an imitation firearm to Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School, leading to a lockdown.
These events have raised concerns among parents and educators about school safety protocols and the psychological impact on students.
Local authorities emphasize the importance of reporting any suspicious activity and assure the community that all reports are taken seriously to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed about safety procedures and to participate in discussions on enhancing security measures within schools. |
