Smeltzer House, a historic landmark in Sherwood Park, Alberta, has stood as a testament to the region's rich heritage since its construction in 1920.
Originally built by Maurice and Eliza Smeltzer, this two-story American Foursquare-style home features a red brick exterior, symmetrical façade, and an inviting front verandah.
In 1976, Strathcona County acquired the property, transforming it into the Smeltzer House Visual Arts Centre.
Over the past four decades, it has evolved into a vibrant hub for arts and culture, offering programs in pottery, glass fusing, and various crafts.
In September 2024, the community celebrated the 40th anniversary of Smeltzer House's role as an arts center.
The festivities included free, family-friendly activities such as glass fusing workshops, paper bead making, and historical tours, highlighting the house's enduring significance in the community.
Today, Smeltzer House continues to serve as a cherished space where residents and visitors can engage with the arts, preserving its legacy as a cornerstone of Sherwood Park's cultural landscape.
