Strathcona County Responds to Widespread Flooding in

Sherwood Park

Heavy rainfall causes road closures and service disruptions as County crews work around the clock to manage drainage and protect residents

Recent heavy rainfall has led to significant flooding across Strathcona County, particularly affecting Sherwood Park. While the rain has subsided, water levels remain elevated, and it will take time for them to return to normal. The County is actively monitoring drainage issues and prioritizing high-risk areas.

 

The County's priority list for addressing flooding is as follows:

 

1. Flooding impacting private homes and infrastructure.

 

2. Flooding with potential damage to public infrastructure.

 

3. Water accumulation in ditches or yards without immediate risk to infrastructure.

 

Many stormwater facilities are still experiencing high water levels. Utilities personnel are conducting ongoing inspections to ensure proper function and safety.

 

Several roads have been closed due to flooding:

 

- 17 Street southbound single lane closure.

 

- 34 Street between 84 Avenue and 92 Avenue.

 

- Highway 14 Service Road west of Range Road 231.

 

- Lakeland Village entrance at Clover Bar Road.

 

- Ranchlands subdivision (localized area).

 

- Range Road 202 between Township Road 512 and Highway 14.

 

- Range Road 203 between Township Road 512 and 514A.

 

- Range Road 212 north of Township Road 560.

 

- Range Road 213 south of Township Road 553.

 

- Range Road 213 between Township Road 560 and 562.

 

- Range Road 215 between Wye Road and Township Road 522.

 

- Range Road 220 between Wye Road and Township Road 530.

 

- Range Road 222 between Township Road 542 and 544.

 

- Range Road 223 north of Township Road 544.

 

- Range Road 232 south of Highway 14.

 

- Township Road 520 between Range Road 231 and Highway 21.

 

- Township Road 540 between Range Road 212 and 213.

 

- Township Road 544 from Range Road 212 to 213.

 

- Township Road 544 between Range Road 222 and 224.

 

- Township Road 553 west of Range Road 213.

 

- Township Road 560 between Range Road 210 and 213.

 

Residents are advised to avoid these areas and seek alternative routes.

 

The Broadmoor Public Golf Course was closed on June 21 and 22. The back nine reopened on June 23, with the full 18-hole course expected to reopen on June 24.

 

Most sports fields and diamonds are currently closed. Residents should check for status updates before planning activities.

 

For immediate threats of flooding to homes or roadways, contact Transportation Engineering and Operations at 780-417-7100.

 

For sewer backups or basement flooding, reach out to Utilities at 780-467-7785.

 

High water in ditches, yards, or stormwater ponds without immediate risk can be reported online through County Connect.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and exercise caution during this period of elevated water levels.
