Art Acquisition Program Opportunities in Sherwood Park

Discover how the permanent art collection and public art enhance our community

Strathcona County is now accepting applications for its 2026 Annual Art Acquisition Program.

Artists are invited to submit their works online from February 9 to April 26, 2026, for consideration in the County's Permanent Art Collection.

This esteemed collection, established in 1987, has grown from an initial seven pieces to over 400 artworks, encompassing a diverse range of mediums such as watercolour, oil and acrylic painting, pottery, sculpture, photography, textiles, and mixed media.

The collection is prominently displayed throughout civic facilities and public spaces, enriching the community's cultural landscape.

Each year, the Art Collection Advisory Committee conducts a juried selection process to recommend new acquisitions that reflect the community's creative diversity and uphold artistic excellence.

Eligible applicants include:

· Artists residing within Strathcona County

· Artists with a meaningful connection to the County

· Equity-seeking artists living on Treaty 6 Territory

· Artists who have participated in a juried exhibition at Gallery@501 or a Strathcona County public art project

Submissions must be made through the online application form available from February 9 to April 26, 2026.

Detailed program information, eligibility criteria, and submission guidelines will be accessible when the call opens.

In addition to the Art Acquisition Program, Strathcona County is hosting several other initiatives to celebrate and promote local artistry.

The 2026 Alberta Summer Games Mural Jam invites artists to create live murals during the Games, fostering a dynamic exchange between creators and the public.

Furthermore, the Student Art Competition Show and Sale offers young artists in Grades 10 to 12 the opportunity to showcase and sell their work, with winning pieces displayed in the Gemstone Gallery at Emerald Hills Leisure Centre for a year.

These programs underscore Strathcona County's commitment to nurturing artistic talent and integrating art into public life.

By participating in these initiatives, artists contribute to a vibrant cultural environment that resonates with residents and visitors alike.

Embrace the chance to leave a lasting impact on the community through art.
