"Strathcona Food Bank: A New Beginning in a Thriving Community"

Strathcona County’s Planning and Development Department has officially approved a development permit for the Strathcona Food Bank’s new home, the Nourish Centre.
The Food Bank partnered with Long & McQuade to purchase four acres of land near the Broadway Boulevard/Broadview Drive roundabout in Sherwood Park. The property will be shared, with the Food Bank building the Nourish Centre and Long & McQuade developing a music studio.
The project has faced challenges. Rising construction costs, U.S. tariffs, and an expanded warehouse design have pushed the price tag to $7.3 million, up from original estimates. The facility will now measure 18,000 sq. ft., with 3,000 additional sq. ft. dedicated to warehouse space.
As a result, the fundraising goal has increased from $2.5 million to $4.5 million. The remaining costs will be covered through savings, a conventional mortgage, and government grants.
