Sherwood Park continues to build on its well-deserved reputation as one of Alberta’s happiest and most livable communities. Nestled just east of Edmonton, this thriving urban centre offers residents a rare balance of small-town friendliness and big-city convenience — a combination that keeps satisfaction levels high year after year.
Local families and newcomers alike point to several reasons why Sherwood Park stands out. The community is known for its strong schools, reliable healthcare, and exceptional public safety — factors that give residents peace of mind and a sense of stability. Add to that an abundance of parks, trails, and recreational spaces, and it’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to the area’s active, outdoor lifestyle.
The community’s infrastructure also plays a key role in its success. Well-planned neighbourhoods, modern amenities, and efficient connections to Edmonton make commuting simple while preserving Sherwood Park’s calm and relaxed pace. Residents enjoy clean streets, well-maintained facilities, and easy access to everything from local boutiques and cafes to major shopping centres and entertainment options.
But what truly sets Sherwood Park apart is its strong sense of community spirit. Whether it’s the weekend farmers’ markets, youth sports programs, or volunteer-driven events, there’s always something bringing people together. This shared pride and participation create more than just a place to live — they create a place to belong.
As Alberta continues to grow and change, Sherwood Park remains a shining example of what makes community life meaningful: safety, opportunity, and connection. It’s no surprise that so many residents describe living here with one simple word — happy. Read More... |
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Enforcement Services in Strathcona County have announced their policing priorities for 2025, shaped by local feedback and crime data.
The focus will be on family violence and persons crime, property crime, drug enforcement, and traffic safety, including impaired driving.
Residents are invited to discuss these priorities at two upcoming town halls: October 27 in Ardrossan at the Recreation Complex, and October 29 in Sherwood Park at the Community Centre, both starting at 7 p.m. with presentations and question periods.
Recent police responses in Sherwood Park, including a July incident on Village Drive and an August armed individual at the detachment, highlight the need for these targeted initiatives.
Community input remains essential as authorities strive to make Strathcona County safer and more resilient. Read More... |
Alberta’s farming community is showing significant leadership in tackling agricultural waste through innovative recycling programs.
The extended ‘Alberta Ag Plastic. Recycle It!’ pilot, running until December 2025, is a prime example, having collected nearly 3.6 million kilograms of recyclable plastics since 2019.
This includes both grain bags and twine, sharply reducing landfill waste and promoting eco-friendly practices across the province.
Special events such as the Agricultural Waste Round Up in Strathcona County offered farmers free and convenient ways to recycle oil, filters, twine, and more.
The Great Twine Round-Up contest rallied impressive community engagement, with Alberta farmers and 4-H clubs together gathering about 16,500 kilograms of twine.
Winners like the Rocky South 4-H Beef Club and Hanna Rangeland 4-H Multi Club were awarded for their outstanding efforts, further encouraging innovation and responsibility in agriculture.
Through these collective actions, Alberta’s farmers are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future. Read More... |
The Strathcona County RCMP and Enforcement Services hosted their annual 'Cram a Cruiser' food drive on October 9, 2025, supporting the Strathcona Food Bank.
Residents filled cruisers with non-perishable food and cash at Superstore, Save-On Foods, and Safeway, reflecting deep community spirit.
Tom Sutton, Director of RCMP and Enforcement Services, praised the generous turnout.
This year's event surpassed expectations, collecting over 4,700 pounds of food and $900, showing a steady increase in local support.
This generosity comes as the food bank faces soaring demand—serving 24,458 people in 2024, a sharp 30% rise from last year.
Items such as canned fruit, soup, personal care products, and baby essentials are especially needed this fall.
All donations stay within the county, directly benefiting struggling families.
With food insecurity on the rise, continued support ensures that no Strathcona County family is left behind. Read More... |
As winter approaches, residents are reminded of the critical need to remove curb ramps, basketball nets, and other on-street obstructions to facilitate efficient snow clearing operations.
According to local regulations, such as those in Strathcona County, curb ramps are prohibited on roadways from November 1 to April 15. This measure ensures that snow removal equipment can operate without hindrance, preventing potential damage to machinery and avoiding costly delays in service. Non-compliance with these regulations can result in fines, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the specified timelines.
Under Traffic Safety Bylaw 16-2015, Enforcement Services could issue a fine. Schedule “K” Offences include: (i) $100 for first offence; (ii) $500 for second offence; and (iii) $1,000 for third and subsequent offences.
It's essential for residents to familiarize themselves with their local ordinances regarding snow removal and the removal of on-street obstructions. By doing so, they contribute to the safety and well-being of the entire community during the winter months.
For specific information on regulations and timelines in your area, please consult your local municipal codes or contact the appropriate city department.
