The ice cream cone’s invention was pure serendipity and quick thinking, not careful planning.
During the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, an ice cream seller ran out of serving dishes on a bustling day.
With eager customers waiting, he glanced at a nearby waffle vendor.
Together, they rolled a hot waffle into a cone shape—suddenly creating an edible way to enjoy ice cream.
People loved the ingenious treat, relishing the chance to eat both dessert and container with no need for dishes.
Many have since claimed credit for this clever idea, but it was this Fair’s flash of creativity that spread the cone’s popularity worldwide.
Today, the cone is a summertime classic, showing how necessity and ingenuity can spark the sweetest traditions. Read More... |

Strathcona County RCMP are warning Sherwood Park residents after a string of distraction thefts in local business parking lots between February 1 and March 1, 2026.
In at least five cases, victims were targeted by individuals claiming to need urgent help—often citing a family death or financial trouble—to gain trust.
Suspects posed as stranded motorists or those needing money, sometimes offering fake gold, jewelry, or counterfeit electronics in exchange.
Some victims were convinced to withdraw cash at ATMs or buy gift cards, while others had their real jewelry swapped for fakes in carefully executed scams.
The thieves typically drive rental vehicles with out-of-province plates, including Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia.
Residents are urged to stay alert, secure their valuables, and avoid strangers seeking physical contact or invading personal space.
