YES It Happened Again!Excavator Strikes Whitemud Overpass |
Strathcona County RCMP were called to the scene Thursday afternoon after a semi-truck carrying an excavator slammed into the underside of the Whitemud Drive overpass along northbound Anthony Henday Drive.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash. The extent of the bridge damage is still being assessed.
If this story sounds familiar, thatβs because it is. Back in June 2023, the very same overpass was struck in a similar incident when another excavator collided with the structure. That crash was so severe it left exposed rebar hanging from the bridge. The driver at the time was charged with five traffic safety violations, and repairs cost taxpayers $2.3 million β a project that wasnβt fully completed until earlier this year.
This latest collision does not appear to have caused the same level of destruction, but officials have yet to announce how much the repairs might cost.
For now, both the Anthony Henday and Whitemud Drive remain open to drivers, though commuters in the area may notice delays as crews assess the situation.
