Sherwood Park continues to build on its well-deserved reputation as one of Alberta’s happiest and most livable communities. Nestled just east of Edmonton, this thriving urban centre offers residents a rare balance of small-town friendliness and big-city convenience — a combination that keeps satisfaction levels high year after year.

Local families and newcomers alike point to several reasons why Sherwood Park stands out. The community is known for its strong schools, reliable healthcare, and exceptional public safety — factors that give residents peace of mind and a sense of stability. Add to that an abundance of parks, trails, and recreational spaces, and it’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to the area’s active, outdoor lifestyle.

The community’s infrastructure also plays a key role in its success. Well-planned neighbourhoods, modern amenities, and efficient connections to Edmonton make commuting simple while preserving Sherwood Park’s calm and relaxed pace. Residents enjoy clean streets, well-maintained facilities, and easy access to everything from local boutiques and cafes to major shopping centres and entertainment options.

But what truly sets Sherwood Park apart is its strong sense of community spirit. Whether it’s the weekend farmers’ markets, youth sports programs, or volunteer-driven events, there’s always something bringing people together. This shared pride and participation create more than just a place to live — they create a place to belong.

As Alberta continues to grow and change, Sherwood Park remains a shining example of what makes community life meaningful: safety, opportunity, and connection. It’s no surprise that so many residents describe living here with one simple word — happy.

A century-old mystery that has haunted Saskatoon has finally been solved.

Cindy Camp’s great-grandmother was only a name on the family tree until police called.

An investigator told her it was believed Alice Spence had been killed more than 105 years ago, her body dumped in a well in Saskatchewan.

Camp and her daughters were asked in the summer to provide DNA samples. They matched.

“I was stunned, in disbelief,” Camp said in a phone interview from her home in Sherwood Park, Alta.

She said her father knew nothing of Spence, and his mother never talked about the woman — her mother.

The Saskatoon Police Service announced a historic breakthrough, identifying the victim long known only as the 'Woman in the well'.

This remarkable development brings a somber sense of closure to a dark chapter in our city's past.

For 100 years, her identity remained unknown, turning the case into a piece of local legend.

Thanks to advancements in DNA technology and forensic genealogy, investigators achieved what was once thought impossible.

Detectives with the cold case unit revisited the evidence with modern scientific methods.

The painstaking process connected the victim to living relatives, finally giving her a name and a story.

This successful identification sends a powerful message that no victim is ever truly forgotten, bringing a resolution that has resonated deeply throughout Saskatchewan.

A tense labour standoff has escalated in Sherwood Park, with a government-issued lockout leaving local teachers out of their schools.

The move follows failed negotiations between the Alberta Teachers Association and the province.

In response, nearly 700 educators and residents held a massive ‘Red for Ed’ rally along Baseline Road, protesting large class sizes and inadequate funding.

The impact on local families is significant.

Over 27,000 students in Strathcona County, across both Elk Island Public and Catholic schools, are now out of class indefinitely.

Students from Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School even organized their own rally to stand in solidarity with their overwhelmed teachers.

With negotiations at a standstill, the community is anxiously awaiting a resolution to get kids back to their desks.

Meet Fonzie, a handsome tuxedo cat whose calm, cool attitude is reminiscent of “The Fonz.”

After enjoying life with a lively family, Fonzie is now seeking a quieter home where he can relax and observe in peace.

He loves cuddling, gently asking for attention, and has grown especially playful with his favorite toys and scratching post.

This charming cat overcame urinary crystals in June, thriving now on a special urinary stress diet and loving his meals.

To keep him healthy, Fonzie will need to stay on this diet and see the vet for regular check-ups.

He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption through the Northern Alberta Society for Animal Protection (NASAP) in Edmonton.

Welcome Fonzie into your home and support NASAP’s mission of rescuing pets in need.
