Trivia Question❓

Who Said? "There are three kinds of lies:

lies, damn lies, and statistics"

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

We can take your old beat up, worn out and dull tools of all kinds and restore them to like new condition. See examples here:

Charles Perkins Strite revolutionized breakfast by inventing the modern pop-up toaster.

Born in Cardiff in 1878, Strite’s frustration with burnt toast while working in Stillwater, Minnesota inspired his creation.

Existing toasters then were unreliable, requiring constant attention and often burning bread.

By 1919, Strite’s design introduced timed heating on both bread sides and a spring-loaded pop-up function, preventing over-toasting.

He secured a U.S. patent in 1921 and launched the Toastmaster through the Waters-Genter Company, first for restaurants, then for households in 1926.

Pop-up toasters quickly became kitchen staples, especially as pre-sliced bread gained popularity in the 1930s.

Recent innovations include Breville’s Eye Q Auto smart toaster and Cuisinart’s eco-friendly models, highlighting an ongoing wave of creativity and convenience in toast technology.

Many people assume they're getting enough fluids, but routines fueled by coffee and occasional sips often fall short.

Research shows that up to 75% of adults experience mild dehydration each day.

Midlife women face increased risk, as hormonal changes can make dehydration more likely.

Subtle signs like afternoon fatigue, trouble concentrating, minor headaches, dry skin, or mysterious cravings can indicate you need more water.

That afternoon snack craving might actually be your body signaling thirst instead.

Boosting daily water intake has helped some rediscover energy and improve mood, proving it’s not always about getting older.

Shooting for 6–8 cups of fluid each day, including tea, can make a real difference.

If you’re active or experiencing hot flashes, increase your intake.

A simple trick: Take a couple of sips every time you check your phone.

It’s an easy way to keep your body hydrated and feeling its best.

The Strathcona Food Bank is facing a dramatic surge in demand, revealing an urgent need for stronger community support.

Record numbers of new clientsβ€”averaging two new families daily last Septemberβ€”underscore growing food insecurity in Sherwood Park.

In October 2025, the Food Bank assembled 824 hampers, marking an all-time high, as more working adults struggle with rising living costs.

Across Alberta, food bank use has jumped 21% from 2024 to 2025, echoing a national trend.

The Food Bank depends on the generosity of local residents to meet demand, particularly through targeted donations of pantry staples, canned goods, meals, non-food essentials, and pet supplies.

Monetary gifts are especially valuable, enabling bulk purchases of urgently needed items.

The community’s ongoing contributionsβ€”small or largeβ€”are essential in supporting neighbours through the...

Highway 16 is fully closed near Elk Island National Park after a semi-truck rollover caused a major diesel spill, forcing authorities to block traffic in both directions.

The accident, which happened on December 4, 2025, saw the semi overturn within the park, triggering an immediate response from Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and specialized hazardous materials teams.

No injuries have been reported, but the diesel spill has prompted a thorough cleanup effort to protect the park’s sensitive ecosystem.

Officials warn the closure may last for an extended period, with no detours currently available β€” leaving drivers to find alternate routes and avoid the area entirely.

The event serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by transporting hazardous materials and highlights the need for extra caution on winter roads.

Travellers are urged to check official updates for road conditions before making travel plans.

The Alberta government is considering raising speed limits on select divided highways from 110 km/h to 120 km/h.

This move is designed to improve traffic flow and reflect advances in vehicle safety and highway engineering.

Residents are encouraged to share their feedback in an online survey open until December 12, 2025.

The review covers major routes such as Highway 1 from Banff to the Saskatchewan border, Highway 2 between Edmonton and Calgary (excluding Deerfoot Trail), as well as Highways 3, 4, 16, 43, and 63.

Urban centers, towns, and First Nation lands are not included due to safety and traffic considerations.

Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen highlighted that both modern vehicle technology and current driving habits support a speed limit increase.

A pilot project is planned after the survey to study the effects of higher speeds on safety and traffic.

Motorists should always adapt their speed to actual road conditions.
