Scotch Tape owes its invention to a paint job gone wrong.
In the 1920s, car makers were experimenting with vibrant, two-tone paint designs.
The available tape often damaged new paint or left uneven lines, frustrating auto body painters.
Richard Drew, a young 3M engineer, observed these struggles firsthand in a local shop, where workers complained about insufficiently sticky masking tape.
Motivated to help, Drew spent years perfecting a new adhesive and backing material.
By 1930, he introduced transparent Scotch Tape, revolutionizing both auto painting and everyday repairs.
During the Great Depression, families used this tape to mend books, repair toys, and patch up household items, making it a trusted staple.
Interestingly, the name “Scotch” started as a playful jab, with customers calling the company stingy for using too little glue. Read More... |
No time for a full workout? Short bursts of movement, often called “movement snacks,” are an easy way to boost your health.
These mini-activities, like stretching, walking around your living room, or a quick set of squats, can break up long stretches of sitting.
Small movement breaks add up, helping reduce stiffness, increase daily energy, and improve both focus and mood.
You don’t need workout gear—try marching in place for a minute, rolling your shoulders, or standing during phone calls.
Experts recommend not sitting for more than 60 minutes at a time.
Pair movement with daily routines—like stretching after sending emails or moving during TV commercials—to make the habit stick.
Small, regular movement really does count. Your body was made to move, so let it! Read More... |

Alberta is updating its iconic border signs after more than 40 years, replacing the classic "Wild Rose Country" motto with the bold new slogan: Strong and Free.
This fresh look matches recent changes to Alberta’s license plates, signaling a unified provincial identity.
Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen highlighted how these signs will warmly greet travelers and locals, no matter if they’re arriving from the Rocky Mountains or fertile prairies.
The switch comes as Alberta’s old signs, battered by harsh weather, are now at the end of their lifespan.
All 22 border crossings—with British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Montana, and the Northwest Territories—will see updated signage, with the project’s cost at about $3.5 million.
Locals are divided: some favor the modern look and message, while others miss the original touch.
For all, the new signs reaffirm Alberta’s spirit—Strong and Free—to everyone who enters. Read More... |
