Trivia Question❓

What transportation system inspired the first traffic light?

We can take your old beat up, worn out and dull tools of all kinds and restore them to like new condition. We also Replace Broken Handles  Call Us: 587-335-7877  See examples here:

Modern roads depend on traffic lights, but the earliest signals looked nothing like today’s versions.

The world’s first traffic signal appeared in London, England, in 1868, created by John Peake Knight, a railway engineer inspired by railroad signals.

Instead of electricity, this signal used movable semaphore arms by day and gas-powered red and green lamps by night to direct horse-drawn carriages and car drivers.

A gas leak caused an explosion that injured the police operator, forcing its removal soon after installation.

With the rise of cars in the early 1900s, electric traffic lights were introduced in Cleveland in 1914, revolutionizing urban safety.

Now, traffic lights with red, yellow, and green signals guide billions of vehicles worldwide every day, organizing intersections and enhancing road safety.

Step outside each morning and let natural sunlight jumpstart your day.

Your body runs on a circadian rhythmβ€”a daily clock shaped by light.

Soaking in morning light helps you feel alert, focused, and improves mood by reducing melatonin and boosting wakefulness.

Benefits include higher energy, sharper concentration, better sleep at night, and a brighter outlook.

You don’t need hours outside.

Just 5–10 minutes is often enough on sunny mornings, or 15–30 minutes if it’s cloudy.

Try sipping coffee on your patio or strolling your block right after waking upβ€”consistency, not duration, is what matters most.

Getting sunlight within the first hour after you wake up can help set a healthy rhythm for energy and sleep all day long.

Morning light is a simple habit with big rewardsβ€”no gym or special gadgets required.

It's hard to believe the 2025-26 school year is drawing to a close. It's been an eventful year, not just for the newly elected EIPS Board of Trustees, but also for public education across the province.

For the past several years, the degree of complexity in the classroom has continued to increaseβ€”and all public school boards have been actively advocating for additional supports to address this challenge. The Classroom Complexity Committee created by the Government of Alberta last November gathered detailed feedback from school divisions, and in February 2026, announced the creation of complexity teamsβ€”each comprised of one teacher and two educational assistantsβ€”to provide critical in-class support aimed at reducing classroom disruption and better supporting teaching staff. For EIPS, there will be teams working closely with the schools where the need is greatest.

Sherwood Park Probus Club

The Sherwood Park Probus Club was established in July 2025 and currently has a membership of 60 members.  Monthly meetings are held at the Strathcona Community Centre, every third Thursday at 0945.  There are guest speakers at each meeting, followed by a social time and a brief business meeting.  Following the meetings an optional lunch is arranged at a local restaurant, at your own cost. Each month there is a tour of a local business, or industry of interest.  An example of some of the tours have been to Arctic Chiller, NAIT Culinary Department, ACQBuilt to name a few.

Probus is a social club, not a service club. It is volunteer-based, low-cost, inclusive, non-profit, non-political, and non-sectarian organization focused on promoting fellowship, friendship, fun and learning. It is about making and embracing social connections, making new friends at a time of life when it is tempting to be passive and just be an observer. Clubs are all about socializing with other retirees in the community and encouraging healthy minds and bodies. Members’ ages typically range from late-50s to mid 90s.  Currently new membership is $75.00 for the first year and $65.00 for returning members.

Come to the next meeting on June 19, at 09:45 in the Strathcona Community Centre.
