Blue jeans started as durable workwear for miners, not fashion statements.
During the California Gold Rush in the 1850s, tough jobs like digging and lifting required pants able to handle hard labor.
Ordinary trousers often wore out, especially in the pockets and seams.
Levi Strauss, a San Francisco businessman, saw miners struggling with flimsy clothing.
A tailor named Jacob Davis invented a way to reinforce pants using copper rivets at stress points.
Unable to pay the patent fee, Davis teamed up with Strauss.
In 1873, they secured a patent for riveted work pants.
Their rugged jeans quickly gained favor with miners, ranchers, and laborers.
Today, blue jeans are a global fashion staple, with billions sold each year.
Fun fact: the small pocket inside many jeans was originally crafted for pocket watches. Read More... |

Itβs your bodyβs natural rhythm β but you donβt have to let it ruin your productivity.

Sherwood Park is set for a transformative moment as the iconic red crane at Broadmoor Lake will soon come down, signaling a major step forward for the newly rising Sherwood Care facility.
The dismantling is planned for mid-June and will require a massive crane to safely handle the six-story structure, which has been underway for the past 10 months.
Once the crane is removed, teams will install heavy rooftop mechanical units, each weighing about 20,000 pounds, vital to the facility's future operations and comfort.
The completed building will feature 210 continuing care beds along with 13 hospice and palliative care bedsβmarking the first dedicated hospice spaces in Strathcona County and expanding essential services for the area's aging residents.
While some locals mourned the loss of the former Seventh-day Adventist Church, anticipation grows as the project nears completion.

While there is hope, skepticism lingers about timelines and real progress.
Separate changes to EMS funding prompted county council to accept a new contract, preserving integrated firefighter-paramedic teams but raising municipal costs and property taxes.
