Trivia Question❓Who Invented the Umbrella?
Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
We can take your old beat up, worn out and dull tools of all kinds and restore them to like new condition. See examples here: |
The umbrella traces its origins back over 4,000 years, first appearing in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and China as a luxury item symbolizing power and status.
Reserved for royalty and religious leaders, early umbrellas acted as sunshades, carefully held by attendants during dignified ceremonies.
Europe embraced the umbrella centuries later, transforming it into protection against rain.
Initially deemed a ladies' fashion statement, it faced resistance among English men before gaining universal acceptance in the 18th century.
Now, this adaptable accessory is essential worldwide, but its luxurious past is never far from view.
In Sherwood Park, the RavenWood Music Festival embodies this spirit of adaptability with festivities at Broadmoor Lake Park on July 10th and 11th, 2026.
Rain or shine, locals gather for live music, family fun, and community connection—umbrellas welcomed.
The umbrella remains a lasting symbol of resilience and unity, much like Sherwood Park itself. Read More... |

Catching a few rays of sunlight each day can boost both energy and mood, making a noticeable difference for your body and mind.
Natural light is key for supporting your circadian rhythm, which impacts sleep, mental clarity, and hormone balance.
Just stepping outside for 5–10 minutes or standing near a sunny window can increase alertness and help reset your focus.
A simple stroll, gentle stretch, or even mindful breathing during your sunlight break adds extra benefits—and making this a daily habit, especially in the morning, supports overall well-being.
Local spots like Sherwood Park offer scenic parks and trails that make sunlight resets easy and inviting.
And with the Sherwood Care Redevelopment Project bringing new outdoor spaces by 2027, enjoying nature in Sherwood Park will be more accessible than ever.

Community Comes Together to Support Survivors of Family Violence |
Strathcona County is hosting Building Bridges, a community event focused on strengthening trust and collaboration between individuals affected by family violence and the local support services dedicated to helping them. The event brings together representatives from the Strathcona County RCMP, A Safe Place, and the Saffron Centre to share how they work together to support survivors, lower barriers to care, and build safer futures. |
In a significant shift, Empire Co. Ltd., the parent company of Sobeys, has announced the immediate cessation of its Voilà grocery delivery services in Alberta.
This decision also includes a pause on the planned expansion into the Vancouver area.
The Stellarton, Nova Scotia-based company cited that its Alberta e-commerce operations did not meet financial expectations, primarily due to the province's smaller-than-anticipated online grocery market.
Consequently, customer fulfillment centers in Calgary and Edmonton will be shut down immediately.
Empire anticipates a $750 million writedown in its fiscal third quarter as a result of this wind-down.
However, the company expects these moves to deliver $95 million in annualized operating income by fiscal 2027.
To continue serving Western Canadian customers, Empire plans to offer same-day delivery services through third-party partnerships.
A new collaboration with delivery app DoorDash is set to roll out in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the Voilà service will continue operations in Ontario and Quebec, where it has been experiencing steady growth.
Chief Executive Pierre St-Laurent emphasized that these decisions are part of reshaping the company's e-commerce strategy to better align with evolving customer needs and expectations.
He stated, "Customers in Ontario and Quebec love Voilà and, while difficult, the decisions we have made related to our customer fulfillment center network in Western Canada will help ensure the long-term growth and profitability of our e-commerce business."
Empire launched its online delivery platform in 2020, aiming to capture a share of the growing e-commerce market.
However, the underperformance in Alberta has prompted a strategic reassessment.
As the company navigates these changes, it remains committed to providing convenient online shopping options for its customers across Canada.
For Alberta residents, the transition to third-party delivery services like DoorDash may offer a seamless alternative to the previous Voilà service.
As these partnerships develop, customers can expect continued access to grocery delivery options tailored to their needs.
In summary, Empire Co. Ltd.'s decision to halt Voilà operations in Alberta reflects a strategic pivot aimed at enhancing the profitability and sustainability of its e-commerce ventures.
By focusing on markets with higher growth potential and leveraging third-party partnerships, the company seeks to adapt to the dynamic landscape of online grocery shopping in Canada. Read More... |
