Alberta is investing more than $6 million in courthouse safety and security improvements, with Sherwood Park among the locations included.

The planned work covers building access, emergency systems, security technology and areas used to move people in custody.

The improvements follow a 2023 planning study that identified security and health-and-safety needs at Alberta courthouses.

The investment is intended to provide safer environments for courthouse staff, legal professionals, witnesses and members of the public who rely on court services.

Some projects are currently in design and procurement, with construction expected to begin or advance during the current fiscal year.

The improvements are anticipated to be completed in 2027.

Sherwood Park is named among the participating locations, but the report does not provide a funding breakdown or describe the specific work planned for each courthouse.

The announced investment covers multiple facilities—not Sherwood Park alone.

About time honestly. That courthouse has needed updates for years.
