Replacing stolen neighbourhood plaques in Woodbridge Farms could cost Strathcona County between $110,000 and $160,000, according to a proposal referred to upcoming budget discussions.

A total of 84 bronze plaques were taken from 24 brick street markers in February 2026.

The markers have been a distinctive part of the west-side Sherwood Park neighbourhood for decades.

The proposed replacements would use engraved concrete rather than bronze.

Replacement plaques alone are estimated at about $76,000, while repairs to the brickwork and straightening some pillars would increase the overall cost.

New bronze replacements were estimated at $300,000 to $320,000, with the metal’s scrap value also raising concerns about repeat theft.

Standard street signs are another option, although removing the existing pillars would add expense.

At its October 20 meeting, council agreed to consider the proposal during budget deliberations.

The decision did not approve the replacement project or its funding.

For Woodbridge Farms residents, the proposal could restore a familiar neighbourhood feature, but the final approach and cost remain undecided in the report.

Concrete is a smart call honestly. No point putting bronze back up just to have it stolen again.

$300,000 for bronze replacements lol. Just do the concrete ones and move on.

I grew up near Woodbridge Farms. Those markers have been there forever. Really sad to see this happen.

84 plaques stolen in one night? That must have taken some planning. Whoever did this knew what they were doing.
