Alberta RCMP corrected a public update about an armed robbery investigation in Strathmore after mistakenly stating that an individual was in custody.

According to an October 25 report in Sherwood Park News, police acknowledged the error in a social media post the previous day and apologized for the confusion.

The earlier update followed a town-wide shelter-in-place alert as officers investigated an armed robbery involving an individual believed to have a firearm.

During that alert, residents were instructed to remain indoors, follow police directions and avoid posting photographs on social media.

The correction appeared approximately three hours after the original alert.

At the time of the report, RCMP had not explained how the incorrect custody information was released or provided further details about any suspect’s status.

The retraction did not establish whether a suspect was subsequently arrested.

This account reflects the October 25 report, not a verified current alert or custody update.
