Strathcona County Earns National Public Engagement Award |
IAP2 Canada names the County its 2026 Organization of the Year |

Strathcona County has received national recognition for its approach to listening to residents and involving them in decisions about their community.
The County announced on October 22 that it had earned the 2026 IAP2 Canada Core Values Award for Organization of the Year.
The award recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in public participation and meaningful engagement.
The County’s submission described a two-year effort to modernize public engagement standards, strengthen internal practices and align its approach with IAP2’s core values.
According to the County, public participation has been part of its work for more than 15 years and is now incorporated into policies, procedures and operational processes.
For residents of Sherwood Park and rural Strathcona County, that includes opportunities to share perspectives on projects, plans and services affecting their communities.
Chief Administrative Officer Stacy Fedechko credited residents and staff for the recognition, saying the County remains committed to improving how it listens and makes room for different voices.
IAP2 Canada is a national association dedicated to advancing public participation.
Its annual Core Values Awards recognize both individual projects and organizations.
