RCMP Officer Charged Following ASIRT Investigation in Gleichen |
Assault causing bodily harm charge relates to an October 2025 incident |
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has charged an RCMP officer following an investigation into an allegation of excessive force at the Gleichen detachment.
According to ASIRT, the incident occurred on October 30, 2025, while an officer was placing a woman in cells after her arrest for mischief earlier that evening.
ASIRT said its investigation found reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed.
Following a review of the evidence and advice from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service that a charge be laid, ASIRT executive director Matthew Block determined that the officer should be charged.
Constable Marie-Helene Dupere was arrested on October 22, 2026, and charged with assault causing bodily harm.
She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice at Siksika Nation on November 26, 2026.
The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.
ASIRT said it would release no further information while the matter is before the courts.
ASIRT investigates potential criminal offences involving police across Alberta, including incidents involving serious injury or death.
