Business defrauded of $138K, Edmonton woman charged

By CTVNewsEdmonton.ca Staff and Sherwood Park RCMP news

In May 2025, the Strathcona County RCMP Financial Crime Unit initiated an investigation into a local business that had been defrauded of $138,000.

On January 29, 2026, following an extensive inquiry, officers arrested and charged Keyanna Leigh Utas, a 33-year-old resident of Edmonton.

She faces charges including fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failure to comply with a probation order.

After a judicial interim release hearing, Utas was released from custody.

She is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park on February 25, 2026.

This case underscores the vigilance of the Sherwood Park RCMP in protecting local businesses from financial crimes.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement to ensure public safety in Alberta.
