Edmonton Man Charged in Shocking Crime Spree: What Led to His Downfall?

Strathcona County RCMP have charged an Edmonton man in connection with a voyeurism incident that took place at a Sherwood Park retail store in June 2024.
The Incident In June 2024, a woman was changing in a fitting room at a Sherwood Park business when she noticed a cellphone being slid under the door. The victim quickly grabbed the phone and alerted store staff, but the suspect fled before police arrived.
The Investigation During the investigation, officers discovered several additional videos depicting victims being secretly recorded while changing or using the bathroom. Mounties spent months following investigative leads and working with partner agencies, including the Canada Border Services Agency, as part of the lengthy investigation.
Charges Laid 37-year-old Alejandro Santana Gutierrez of Edmonton is now facing charges of:
• Voyeurism • Making sexual abuse and exploitation material • Possessing sexual abuse and exploitation material
Gutierrez is set to appear in court on March 18, 2026.
Safety Tips from RCMP Police are reminding residents to be aware of their surroundings when using public change rooms or washrooms:
• Inspect change rooms thoroughly before entering • Choose rooms with floor-to-ceiling walls when possible • Check for hidden cameras or unusual objects • Look for gaps, holes, or cracks in walls, ceilings, or doors • Trust your instincts and report suspicious activity immediately
