Residents of Sherwood Park can look forward to enhanced recreational opportunities with the upcoming construction of a new indoor sports facility in Strathcona County.
Set to break ground in spring 2026, this state-of-the-art fieldhouse aims to cater to a diverse range of athletic activities.
Mayor Rod Frank expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its role in fostering a more active and engaged community.
Located at 240 Broadview Drive, the facility will be strategically positioned between Bethel Transit Terminal and Millennium Place, ensuring convenient access for residents and visitors alike.
The design includes a versatile turf area that can be divided into separate quadrants, allowing multiple groups to utilize the space simultaneously.
Additional amenities such as lockers, team and officials' rooms, washrooms, a multipurpose meeting space, and a welcoming lobby are also planned.
In a related development, the Sherwood Park Crusaders Hockey Society is advancing plans for a multipurpose arena in the Cambrian Crossing area.
This facility is expected to feature four ice sheets, with the main arena accommodating up to 2,600 spectators for hockey games and 3,500 for concerts.
Construction is slated to commence in 2026, further enriching the region's recreational infrastructure.
These initiatives underscore Strathcona County's commitment to providing top-tier recreational facilities that meet the evolving needs of its community.
