L’Oca Quality Market Closure and Updates in Sherwood Park Alberta

Covering Sherwood Park grocery stores and recent restaurant closures

L’Oca Quality Market has announced the closure of its Edmonton and Sherwood Park locations, effective March 12, 2026.

This decision also affects the associated restaurants, Pyro and Oro, which will cease operations on the same date.

The company had previously planned to expand with a new grocery store in St. Albert but has now canceled those plans.

In a statement, the company expressed, “We were humbled by the difficulty of executing a locally focused, hand-crafted business model and despite our best efforts we didn’t see a sustainable path forward for the business.”

The Sherwood Park store opened in May 2024, followed by the Edmonton branch in early 2025.

Both locations aimed to offer a unique shopping experience, featuring in-house made products and specialty items.

Despite initial enthusiasm, the stores faced challenges in maintaining a sustainable business model.

In related developments, the Safeway on Wye Road in Sherwood Park closed on March 30, 2025, after decades of service.

Additionally, Empire Co. Ltd., the parent company of Sobeys, ceased its Voilà grocery delivery services in Alberta in February 2026, citing financial challenges.

These closures reflect a shifting landscape in Sherwood Park’s grocery and restaurant sectors, prompting residents to seek alternative options for their shopping and dining needs.

As the community adapts, there is hope for new businesses to emerge and fill the void left by these closures.

Residents are encouraged to support local establishments to help sustain the vibrancy of Sherwood Park’s commercial scene.
