Nominations Open for Strathcona County's 2026 Awards of Excellence

Recognizing Community Champions Across Ten Categories

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Strathcona County Awards of Excellence, honoring individuals, businesses, and community groups that contribute to making Strathcona County an exceptional place to live.

 

This biennial event celebrates remarkable achievements and significant contributions that enhance the county's social, cultural, and economic fabric. The upcoming awards ceremony is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at Festival Place, where recipients will be publicly recognized.

 

"The Awards of Excellence provide a platform to acknowledge those who go above and beyond to strengthen our community," stated Mayor Rod Frank. "From dedicated volunteers and community leaders to innovative businesses and inspiring youth, these award recipients make a lasting difference in the lives of others and help shape the future of Strathcona County."

 

The awards encompass ten categories, reflecting the diverse ways individuals and groups contribute to the community:

 

Agricultural Leadership: Honoring outstanding contributions in agricultural stewardship, innovation, and promotion.

 

Arts, Culture and Heritage: Recognizing achievements in literary, visual, performing, film, and video arts, or in preserving and sharing local culture and history.

 

Athletic Achievement: Celebrating individuals who have demonstrated exceptional athletic skill and dedication.

 

Community Service: Acknowledging efforts that have improved the quality of life for others through volunteerism, good citizenship, humanitarian efforts, or environmental stewardship.

 

Economic Diversification: Recognizing contributions that diversify and strengthen Strathcona County's economy.

 

Heroism and Leadership: Honoring exceptional leadership or acts of heroism and bravery.

 

Outstanding Group: Celebrating non-profit organizations or community associations for their lasting contributions.

 

Service to Seniors: Recognizing individuals whose efforts have significantly benefited the quality of life for seniors.

 

Youth: Honoring individuals aged 21 or younger for significant contributions to the community.

 

Mayor’s Award: The highest civic recognition, selected from all eligible nominations, for contributions or achievements of lasting significance.

The Awards of Excellence not only highlight extraordinary accomplishments but also the generosity, leadership, and commitment that help build a welcoming, inclusive, and resilient community. Previous ceremonies have showcased achievements in volunteerism, cultural enrichment, and public service, reflecting the depth of talent and dedication found throughout Strathcona County.
