Sherwood Park Schools Merge into New Forest Grove School |
Sherwood Heights Junior High and École Campbelltown unite in Forest Grove School opening 2026-27 |
Sherwood Park is on the brink of a significant educational transformation as two longstanding institutions, Sherwood Heights Junior High and École Campbelltown, prepare to merge into the newly constructed Forest Grove School. This modern facility is set to open its doors for the 2026-27 academic year, offering a comprehensive K-9 curriculum.
The decision to consolidate these schools stems from a commitment to replace aging infrastructure with a state-of-the-art learning environment. Sherwood Heights Junior High, established in 1959, has been a cornerstone of the community for over six decades. The new Forest Grove School aims to honor this legacy while providing enhanced educational opportunities for approximately 900 students.
Forest Grove School will offer a diverse range of programs to cater to the community's needs. The elementary division will feature a single-track French Immersion program for Kindergarten through Grade 6. The junior high segment will provide multiple options, including:
- Grades 7-9 French Immersion program
- Grades 7-9 Logos Christian program
- Grades 7-9 regular English program
- Grades 8-9 Junior High Honours program
To commemorate the rich histories of Sherwood Heights and École Campbelltown, a Legacy Night is scheduled for June 11, 2026. The evening will begin with open houses at both existing schools from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a community gathering at the Forest Grove site from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. This event will feature tours, musical performances, and a barbecue, offering families a chance to reflect on the past while embracing the future.
The name "Forest Grove" was chosen to reflect the unity of the merging communities. The term "forest" signifies a large group of trees, while "grove" represents a smaller grouping. Together, they symbolize small groups coming together to form a cohesive whole, mirroring the integration of students, families, staff, and community members into a unified educational environment.
As the opening of Forest Grove School approaches, the community eagerly anticipates the opportunities this new institution will bring. The school is poised to become a beacon of learning and growth in Strathcona County, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among its students and residents. |
