Sherwood Park Author Shares Breast Cancer Journey in New Book

Kimm Hutton marks five years cancer-free with 'The Embers We Carry' and book signing to support CIBC Run for the Cure

Sherwood Park author Kimm Hutton is opening up about her breast cancer journey in a new book, offering readers a candid look at her path to recovery.

In 2021, Hutton faced a life-altering diagnosis of estrogen-sensitive carcinoma. Despite her extensive background in nursing, she found herself unprepared for the emotional and physical challenges ahead. "I realized early that you cannot fight cancer alone," she shared. "But at the end of the day, I was the only one who could get through it. The only thing I could control was to keep fighting."

Her chapter, "Becoming Elite," in the anthology The Embers We Carry, delves into the importance of self-leadership and resilience during such trying times. Hutton emphasizes the significance of showing up for oneself, even when the path is daunting.

To mark the release, Hutton will host a book signing event on June 13 at Keylime Activewear in Sherwood Park Mall. Proceeds from the event will support her team, Mammaries Forever, in the annual CIBC Run for the Cure. This year holds special meaning as it marks both her fifth year cancer-free and the team's fifth participation in the event.

Reflecting on her journey, Hutton expressed a desire to give back: "I never thought I would need the help I once walked to support. Now I want to use my story to raise awareness and support others."

For those interested in attending the book signing or supporting the cause, more information is available through local community channels.
