Sherwood Park Teacher Hosts Major MS Fundraiser Sale

Elementary music teacher Courtney Richard turns personal connection to multiple sclerosis into community fundraising event

A local elementary music teacher is turning a personal connection to multiple sclerosis into a major community fundraiser this month.

Courtney Richard, a Sherwood Park teacher who lives with MS, is hosting a large sale over two weekends in May to support MS Canada.

Richard said she will be participating in the MS Edmonton walk at the end of the month. She was inspired to do something bigger as part of her fundraiser this year and has been collecting donations of books, games, and puzzles for the last 6 months. As she has been collecting, she has met numerous other members of the community also living with this disease.

Alberta has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world, with about 340 cases per 100,000 people. That means roughly 15,000 Albertans are living with the disease, which is the leading cause of neurological disability among young adults.

Over the past six months, Richard has gathered a wide selection of items for all ages and genres, with all proceeds going directly to MS Canada through her walk fundraiser.

Everything will be put towards her MS walk which will go to MS Canada. She has a QR code to donate online or donation forms for cash donations.

The sale runs May 22 to 24 at 12 Woodstock Terrace, with pricing set by donation. Hundreds of donated books, board games, and puzzles will be available for all ages.
