380 kg of drugs hidden in toilet paper seized at Alberta – U.S. border |

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Coutts port of entry that connects Alberta to the U.S. state of Montana seized 380 kilograms of drugs after a truck attempted to cross the border on July 2.
The commercial truck was carrying a load that departed from California, with documents showing that the truck contained bath tissue. The shipment was set for a final destination of Vilna, a village of just over 250 located approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
Officers examined the truck and noticed some abnormalities in the load, with further investigation leading to the detection of concealed suspected narcotics from 12 medium-sized moving boxes, as well as a smaller box and a duffle bag.
In total, officers seized 300 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and 80 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
“The CBSA defends our borders and protects Canadians,” said Janalee Bell-Boychuk, the Regional Director General of the Prairie Region for the CBSA. “This significant seizure of hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine in Alberta highlights the skill of CBSA officers to stop illegal narcotics and other contraband from breaching our borders.”
The driver was arrested by officers before being turned over to the RCMP, along with the suspected drugs.
CBSA officers made 1,292 illegal narcotics seizures in 2025, including over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine and nearly 300 kilograms of methamphetamine. Text Section |

Good catch but when are we tackling the demand side too? Feels like we’re just playing defense.
Honestly didn’t expect so much meth up here. Thanks to border guards for stopping it.
What happens to the driver now? Are there ever updates on the court cases?
1,292 seizures in one year seems huge. Is that normal? Never realized how busy it is.
My nephew works near Coutts. Glad the officers are paying attention out there.
Appreciate the hard work, but they need even more border checks. There’s probably more getting through.
Bath tissue? That’s a lot of drugs to try to hide with toilet paper. Yikes.
Lucky they did a double check. Could have slipped through easy.
Great work but more needs to be done about big suppliers.
Not surprised, border towns always get some action.
Meth and coke together? Serious trouble there.
Kind of scary for such a small community like Vilna.
Good catch but this is just the tip of the iceberg.
So many busts last year, seems like a neverending fight.
I drive through Coutts all the time, never thought about what could be hidden in those semis.
Bath tissue... Right. Who checks boxes like that anyway?
Makes me worried about trucks going through all the time.
Big bust but the RCMP better keep an eye out for more like this.
Nice to see law enforcement actually stop something this big.
Hope those drugs are off the streets for good.
Wonder if the driver knew what they were hauling or just playing dumb.
Impressive work by border services.
So much for Vilna just being a quiet little village!
That’s a LOT of meth. Yikes.
I’m surprised they only checked cause of the load looking odd. Imagine how much slips by.
Thanks CBSA for keeping this stuff out of Alberta.
Makes you wonder how many make it through undetected.
Glad they caught this before it hit the streets.
Big thank you to the CBSA for being alert. Meth is really hurting communities.
It’s wild to think something like this could end up so close to Vilna. Scary.
I gotta say, how did they even think they’d get away with that much in one go? Pretty bold.
California to Vilna is a long haul for bath tissue.
Vilna?! That's the last place I'd expect.
How did they think they'd get away with it?
Wow, I drive through Coutts sometimes. Didn’t realize it was such a hotspot.
Good job catching that before it got farther. That’s a lot of drugs.
Good job CBSA!
That's a crazy amount of drugs.
