Catalytic Converter Theft Reports Increase in Strathcona County |
RCMP recorded eight reports in October as of its October 27 update |

Strathcona County RCMP are asking vehicle owners to review their parking and security habits following an increase in reported catalytic converter thefts.
In an October 27, 2026 release, police said they received no reports in August, two in September and eight so far in October.
The October figure was a month-to-date count, not a final monthly total.
Reported incidents occurred in larger parking lots and residential areas.
Police recommend choosing well-lit parking spaces near building entrances, or parking inside a garage with its doors closed and locked.
Businesses are encouraged to keep vehicles insid locked buildings or behind secured fences.
Other recommendations include using a vibration-sensitive vehicle alarm and engraving the vehicle identification number on the converter to help identify its owner.
RCMP also ask residents to report suspicious activity, including someone underneath a vehicle or around homes or businesses at unusual hours.
Information about property crime can be reported to Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.
Police say reducing access to a vehicle’s underside can help limit opportunities for theft.

Larger parking lots like which ones? Would be nice if they gave us a heads up on where exactly these are happening.
Zero in August then 8 in October. Something changed. Wonder if its the same crew moving around.
Engraving your VIN on the converter is actually a solid tip. Makes it way harder to sell.
Good reminder to actually use the garage instead of storing junk in it lol
This happened to my neighbor on Brentwood last week. Took them less than 2 minutes apparently. Scary how fast it is.
8 in October already and the month wasnt even done. Thats bad
